Stock Market Live Updates: Dollar hits one-month high as rate-cut bets fall

The dollar rose on Tuesday as investors tempered their expectations for a March rate cut from the Federal Reserve, while the pound and yen fell as inflationary pressures subsided.

Against a basket of currencies, the dollar rose 0.47%to 103.13, a one-month high. It gained 0.2% overnight in subdued trading during a US public holiday on Monday.

SBI to raise up to Rs 50 billion via perpetual bonds

State Bank of India plans to raise up to Rs 50 billion ($602.56 million), including a greenshoe of Rs 30 billion, through Basel III-compliant additional tier-I bonds, three bankers said on Tuesday. The country’s largest lender has invited bids for this perpetual bond issue on Thursday. The bonds have a call option at the end of the tenth year.

European stock markets drop at open

European stock markets slid at the start of trading on Tuesday as hopes of early interest rate cuts this year fade and tensions mount in the Middle East.
London’s benchmark FTSE 100 index shed 0.6 percent to 7,552.68 points.

In the eurozone, the Paris CAC 40 index retreated 0.8 percent to 7,354.66 points and Frankfurt’s DAX lost 0.7 percent to 16,505.51.

Three entities — Capital Small Finance Bank, Krystal Integrated Services and Vibhor Steel Tubes — have received Sebi’s go-ahead to raise funds through Initial Public Offerings (IPOs). All three firms, which filed their preliminary IPO papers with the capital markets regulator in October 2023, obtained their observation letters during January 8-12, an update with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) showed on Tuesday.

We expect LTI Mindtree to post a moderation in revenue growth and register an increase of 0.5%-1% QoQ in Q3FY24. This subdued growth can be attributed to reduced number of working days and a higher-than-expected impact of furloughs, particularly in the BFSI and Hi-Tech verticals. However, the momentum in the manufacturing and energy verticals is expected to partially offset these challenges.
